Our government is committed to working with ROMA to build a bright future for rural Ontario with opportunities for growth in resource-based sectors, enhanced education and training, and increased workforce productivity.
We are helping rural communities thrive by making investments to grow resource-based sectors, increase access to high-speed internet, strengthen the agri-food sector, and address labour shortages. We are also working with rural municipalities to build more housing faster, and get shovels in the ground on critical infrastructure.
We also recognize the financial pressures facing rural municipalities, and are working with them to ensure they are properly supported. The government announced:
- More than $936 million in funding to municipal servimanagersger and Indigenous program administrators in 2023-24 and 2024-25 through initiatives under the National Housing Strategy
- This includes over $23 million under the Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit for women and children fleeing violence
- The province is extending the deadline for implementation projects under the Intake 3 of the Municipal Modernization Program to help streamline, digitize and modernize their services, as well as extending the deadline for final reports for projects under the Streamline Development Approval Fund
- The province has also announced a new intake of the Rural Economic Development Fund to create economic opportunity for rural and Indigenous communities
