Our government stands firmly against all forms of religious and racial discrimination and intolerance.
Antisemitism, discrimination, and hatred directed against people because they are Jewish is unacceptable. Yet, it is disturbingly on the rise in Canada and around the world.
An annual audit conducted by B’Nai Brith Canada reported a record number of anti-Semitic incidents for the fourth consecutive year – the highest number of hate crimes against any community in this country.
That is why our government is building upon our plan by investing $300K to provide the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) to provide province-wide training for staff and supports for students and parents to combat antisemitism in homes, schools and communities.
Building on new resources and Holocaust education promoted through FSWC last year, educators are now held accountable for racist remarks and behaviour by explicitly setting out that racist remarks and behaviours are treated as acts of professional misconduct. Our government also mandated a compulsory anti-bullying policy that for the first time, there are specific references regarding religiously motivated discrimination, including antisemitism.
Our government will continue to take action to counter Jew Hate and all hate in Ontario schools. https://news.ontario.ca/en/release/1001493/ontario-announces-plan-to-combat-antisemitism-in-schools
