Ontario Building and Improving Schools

Under Premier Ford, our government  is committed to building new schools and child care spaces for families in every corner of this great province.

For 2021-2022, our government is investing over $600 million to ensure learning spaces are well ventilated, modern, internet-connected, and accessible. The government continues to support science and tech labs, in-class technology and learning tools to create a more dynamic classroom with a focus on STEM education.

Our government is building 19,700 new student spaces in schools.

Specifically to build schools, the government is investing $565 million, which will deliver:

26 new schools

20 permanent additions and renovations built.

1,525 child care spaces

Furthermore, our government is investing in the expansion of 32 child care centres located in schools across the province. This will create over 1500 new licensed child care spaces.

In total, more than 3,000 new child care spaces have been approved in this round of funding — building on our commitment to affordable and accessible child care for families.

Minister Lecce announced investments to protect schools, throughout the pandemic,  including over $600 million to support safety and ventilation improvements in schools.

That includes over 70,000 HEPA units installed in classrooms province-wide.

Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government will continue to invest in new and state-of-the-art schools and world-class learning for every student in Ontario.
