Terms of Reference for the Northern Road Link EA and Building a Made-in-Ontario Supply Chain for Innovative Technologies

This morning in Toronto, George Pirie, Minister of Mines, David Piccini, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks and Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development and Minister of Indigenous Affairs announced that our government has approved the Terms of Reference for the Northern Road Link. The Northern Road Link will connect First Nations communities to the Ontario highway network and the critical minerals deposits in the Ring of Fire that will help secure a supply chain for electric vehicle manufacturing in Ontario.

Minister Pirie also announced recipients of the $5 million Critical Minerals Innovation Fund that is supporting Ontario-based companies that are leading the development of new mining technologies focused on building the critical minerals supply chain.

Together, these announcements are advancing access to the critical minerals in the Ring of Fire and supporting our goal to build a made-in-Ontario supply chain from mining critical minerals in the north to manufacturing electric vehicles in the south.

Ontario Expanding Cancer Coverage for Firefighters

Today, Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, was joined by Michael Kerzner, Solicitor General, and Greg Horton, President of the Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association, to announce our government is expanding cancer coverage for firefighters.

These changes will make it faster and easier for these heroes and their families to access the compensation and supports they deserve for thyroid and pancreatic cancers from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).

Today, our government is introducing the Building More Mines Act, 2023, which if passed, would attract more investment and secure the critical minerals that support the made-in-Ontario supply chain for new technologies like batteries and electric vehicles.

The proposed legislation would cut red tape that is creating project delays and cost overruns. These changes would improve our competitiveness and pave the way for Ontario to become Canada’s number one jurisdiction for mineral investment and development.

Ontario Welcomes Investment & Job Creation in the Life Sciences Sector

Today, our government joined AstraZeneca to announce that the company is making a transformational investment to establish a flagship Global Clinical research centre at its growing Mississauga site. This investment will create 500 good-paying jobs.

Through our province’s life sciences strategy, Taking Life Sciences to the Next Level, Ontario is establishing itself as a global biomanufacturing and life sciences hub. In the last two years, Ontario has attracted nearly $3 billion in investments by global biomanufacturers.
