Summary
Tourism is a key economic driver in Ontario, supporting more than 400,000 jobs and generating over $36 billion of economic activity for the province. That’s why we’re encouraging Ontarians to safely explore our province for World Tourism Day on Sunday September 27.
World Tourism Day highlights the important role tourism plays in preserving and promoting culture and heritage all around the world. Our government is encouraging people to travel safely and locally to rediscover tourism offerings close to home to ensure Ontario will be in the best position to welcome the world back to the province as soon as it’s safe to do so.
Minister MacLeod recently announced a new $13-million funding partnership between Destination Ontario and Destination Canada, which will help deliver locally driven marketing programs to bolster the local tourism economy. Through the Celebrate Ontario program, Ontario is also investing $9.75 million to support more than 250 festivals and events taking place throughout the year in communities across the province, including Blockbuster events.
The Ministry is also making strategic investments in the tourism sector through the Tourism Economic Development and Recovery Fund (TEDRF), an application-based, cost-sharing program.
